The Post-2015 Agenda

Consultations with civil society and business leaders on the Post-2015 Development Agenda

The Post-2015 Development Agenda: Outreach to Civil Society and African Business Leaders

The Millennium Development Goals are credited with focusing attention and coordination around a few key indicators for development. Countries have a clear understanding of the targets they seek to achieve, in a defined timeline. Many are in line to reach these targets.
However, the world has changed significantly since the MDGs were first agreed. Recognising this, the UN Secretary General charged the High Level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda with the task of consulting widely and considering priorities for the new development agenda. The High Level Panel’s report was submitted in May 2013, following outreach to a large number of stakeholders across the globe.
TESS provided support to the Graça Machel Trust for a series of consultation events, focusing on civil society as well as business leaders in Africa.
The private consultation sought inputs from business leaders to understand their experience of the MDGs to date, and their expectations and possible role in a Post-2015 global development framework. The event was attended by a wide range of key industrial sectors. They shared hopes for major opportunities and concerns about challenges to economic growth in Africa. Recommendations from the discussions were fed into the deliberations of the High Level Panel for the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
This event was also complemented by 3 targetted outreach events to civil society, offering a direct discussion with High Level Panel Members to ensure that inputs from civil society were also brought to the fore. Finally, a number of ad-hoc events also allowed inputs from a wide range of sectoral partners across the world.
